Prespective PEOs / Poll Workers

Every Election Day, thousands of Ohioans play an important role in our democracy by helping to operate polling places. These Precinct Election Officials (P.E.O.s) and Technicians work hard to ensure their neighbors can vote with ease on Election Day, while helping to safeguard the voting process.

To become a Precinct Election Official in Lorain County:

  • You must be a U.S. citizen.

  • You must be registered to vote.

  • You must be a registered voter in Lorain County.

  • You must not have been convicted of a felony.

  • You cannot work as a P.E.O. in the precinct(s) in which you are running as a candidate.

What are the benefits?

  • It is a great way to learn, serve and earn extra spending money ($150 if you work Election Day).

  • You can gain a better understanding of the election and voting process.

  • You can feel pride for serving your community and help democracy work by making sure every voter can vote.

Keep in mind:

  • All P.E.O.s are required to attend a training session scheduled by Lorain County Board of Elections prior to the election.

  • You must show competence by passing an assessment after the training session.

  • You can expect to work from 5:30 a.m. (polls are open at 6:30) until 8:30 p.m. (polls close at 7:30).

  • Technicians must be available varying times prior to Election Day to set up the vote centers.

  • Technicians are responsible for maintaining the proper operation of the voting units on election day.
